Bobbins- Type L - Bobbins

This is a class L bobbin. These bobbin are approximately 8.9mm wide and 20.3 mm in diameter. This bobbin is the same diameter as the class 15 bobbin, but it is not as wide (shorter).

Rotary hook system (top loading bobbin): If you place a class 15 bobbin in a class L bobbin case, the bobbin will sit too high and the needle thread will catch on the bobbin. Conversely, if you put a class L bobbin in a class 15 bobbin case, the bobbin sits too low in the bobbin case. The bobbin will chatter while sewing. It kind of works, but really does not.

Oscillating hook system (front loading bobbin): With the exception of short arm and multi-needle embroidery machines, front loading machines use a class 15 bobbin. This class L bobbin will fit, but will move front to back during use and give inconsistent lower tension. It is best to use a class 15 bobbin for these machines.

This class L bobbin typically is used in older Baby Lock and older Brother sewing and embroidery machines with a top loading bobbin.
